When you walk around Dresden, it feels like you are in Disney, only you are in a real city. Complete with a new concert hall, this was a great stop, one which started with an amazing meet-up between the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Pittsburgh Symphony, who I toured with in 2017 and recently shot portraits for. Both these orchestras have been so amazing to work with and to see Pittsburgh on the road with such a warm welcome, it really reminded me of how lucky I am to be able to do what I do. Additionally, I learned about Stolpersteine, or stumbling stones, which commemorate individuals at exactly the last place of residency—or, sometimes, work—which was freely chosen by the person before they fell victim to Nazi terror. A beautiful, yet chilling reminder.
