🌨️ French painter and illustrator Norbert Goeneutte (1854-1894) painted this snowy scene at the age of only twenty-two. At the time, he lived very close to the boulevard de Clichy in Paris. This was one of many paintings and etchings he made of the buildings and people on its busy streets.
The wintry weather was an important element of the painting (he even mentions it in its title), and it was seen as a quiet celebration of the metropolitan elegance of Paris.
