⠀ BRODIE SESSIONS - Day Five ⠀⠀ Today's featured performance: @babyinvain ⠀⠀⠀ "We shoot these on film because it puts both us and the band on the tip of our toes. Sometimes when you shoot a sessions digitally its edited together of 3-4 takes to make a “sublime” version of each song but here we do everything in one take because the rolls gives us a natural limit. We never do re-takes. Brodie Sessions are not put into this world for portraying perfection but to report what happened that day when we took that given band into that given room and started rolling. With that direction we surely encounters “mistakes” here and there but thats what makes it so much more real, intense and beautiful. The whole concept is based on capturing real moments on real film. Shooting film also gives Jason (DP) and the operators a bigger sense of connection with the band and the movements, something magical just happens when you look directly through the lens on to the subject and not a representation of reality through pixels. ⠀ The Baby In Vain session is shot in an old, abandoned electric powerplant on the Danish island of Bornholm. We immediately fell in love with the huge old windows and agreed on blasting sunlight from the outside via Maxi Brute 9000 Par lamps. ⠀ There is something extremely beautiful yet vulnerable about Baby In Vain’s sound, so we wanted it to feel iconoclastic but with a touch of something dreamy. The Kodak 250D stock felt perfect for that warm and hazy feeling that we wanted to emphasize.
