Reposted from @thelegendsofmusic Here’s Paul Kossoff’s guitar solo on “All Right Now” by Free Remembering Paul Kossoff on what would have been his 72nd Birthday Legend has it that six years into training as a classical guitarist, Paul Kossoff witnessed Eric Clapton playing with John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers and that inspired him to buy his own Gibson Les Paul – which, in the mid 1960s, had already been out of production for five years or so! Soon after he became a member of Free and developed a style of playing that was unbelievable. If you take a look at it his style channeled the blues and soul styles of music by using unorthodox chord voicings, which heavily distinguished him from his peers. That along with heartfelt solos, which contained an inimitable vibrato. As per Guitarworld.com, his solo on “All Right Now” mixed open strings with fretted notes. I would also recommend listening to the arpeggiated type patterns featured in “Mr. Big” and the sustained string bends with vibrato reminiscent featured in “Fire and Water”. iiii]; )'
