On August 6, the 77th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima, we explore the topic of nuclear winter—the scientific prediction that the firestorms set off by a nuclear explosion would envelop the earth in a thick blanket of soot and ash that would drive global temperatures to below freezing and cause famine, the death of ecosystems and mass extinctions.
We will be joined by scientists and nuclear winter pioneers Alan Robock, Brian Toon, Richard Turco, John Birks and Georgiy Stenchikov, as well as MIT professor and Future of Life Institute president Max Tegmark, award-winning documentary producer and director Ann Druyan, and PW Director of Sciences Janna Levin (@jannalevin).
Join us to honor the scientists who not only discovered nuclear winter, but persevered through relentless personal and professional attacks to communicate this discovery to the public. RSVP now at the link in our bio. 🔗
