Hit a PB on deficit deadlift at 120kg (for those who don’t know, it’s a variation that is harder than a conventional deadlift because you do it at a deficit therefore longer trajectory upwards) - and wanted to compare it to my conventional deadlift back in 2016, when I PB’d at 60kg (with not so great technique and legs wobblier than a baby calf). I cannot get over how weenie I was and how at the time I was worried about muscle and weight gain 😅😭. But also the more important message which is while Instagram is helping to surface older female fitness folk, it’s still shockingly bad in the mainstream from mags to TV to gym signage, and so stereotypes and self-limiting beliefs persist. While there is a caveat that getting older can increase risks around certain things, it isn’t an automatic default this will happen.
