What’s the first thing you should look for when trying to decide on a filmmaker for your wedding?
STYLE! There are so many different styles of wedding film out there, which I’m sure can make it really confusing when planning your wedding.
So here are some things to consider:
Do you want a really dramatic, staged film? Do you want to spend half of your wedding day setting up epic shots? Or you want a filmmaker that’s going to blend into the background and just capture things as they happen? Do you like films that have voiceovers in them, or just music? Fun and upbeat, or elegant and dramatic? These are the kinds of questions you need to be asking...
Watch a lot of wedding films and figure out what it is that you like before reaching out to people to see who’s available.
So what’s my style? Am I right for you?
Personally, my approach to filming a wedding is to try and be discreet for the majority of the day, shooting from afar to get natural shots of your friends and family. That being said, I’m also not afraid to step in occasionally to give you a couple of prompts or ask you to stand in some nice light to make sure we get some killer, dramatic shots of you both. I never pose you, but I do give a little bit of direction so that you feel more relaxed and less pressured.
As for editing? My style is emotive, with a focus on bringing out the natural emotions from your wedding day so that you can feel them again and again. I try to get to know you both in the lead up to the wedding day so that I can make sure your personalities shine through in your film, and that it’s unique and bespoke to you.
It’s hard to boil down to an instagram caption, because every film is different. But ultimately, my goal is to make a wedding film that will have you laughing and crying.
