NYC’s newest hidden Japanese underground rare sake and vinyl bar opens tonight!! Super lowkey—only open two nights a week for now: Friday 8pm–12am ish and Saturday 5pm–12am, with the owner Masa bartending both nights. He also runs “Hard to Explain”, so you already know it’s gonna be cool. The space is moody and cozy—exposed brick, dried flowers hanging from the ceiling, vintage lamps, candles everywhere, and soul and jazz vinyls spinning in the back. It’s intimate in the best way. . The menu features sake and plum wine (umeshu) flights with some seriously rare pours—like red sake (served at the G20 Summit and even gifted to the Emperor of Japan), spicy umeshu (one of my favorites!!), and bottles from a 400-year-old brewery. He also makes fresh fruit cocktails that are so good—especially the Shine Muscatini: muddled muscat grapes, Okinawan Thai rice shochu, sugarcane shochu, and jasmine tea. Fruity, floral, and unexpectedly complex. . Perfect for a date night, girls night, or solo chill. Bonus: it’s across from Tomi Jazz if you feel like bar hopping! More drink pics, angles, and the menu in my Threads (vids here, stills there!)📍yakuni . . #nyc #speakeasybar #japanese #sake #cocktails
