Does this happen to you, too? Last week, I bled through my pants and I felt so full of shame for it. “Shouldn’t you know better by now?” “Ugh how could you let this happen?” Were my immediate thoughts as I was scrubbing cheap toilet paper against my pants in an attempt to clean up blood on my joggers. But then an immediate, more loving (and honest) voice came in which reminded me that this is just my body doing her things and sometimes we are not on the same timeline and that is SO UNBELIEVABLY NORMAL. It served as a reminder that I still carry shame around my period, and this is one of the ways my shame manifest - in this belief that I will one day be old enough to not let these “accidents” take place. As of there is something inherently wrong with my period possibly being visible to others (I mean ruining clothes you live sucks but the discomfort is much deeper than that for me). Its the shame I carried as a young girl for having a period in the first place, the most NORMAL part of my body doing her thing has become such a root of shame for so many of us. I’m grateful a more loving voice filled my brain after the first jolt of me being frustrated with myself came in. And just in case you are still working on not beating yourself up for just a little bit of blood- this is for you too. #powertotheperiod #periods
