I asked if they would be open to doing a time + materials/tools usage based rate instead. However every location said that this idea is utopic and doesn’t work- and that people would get nit picky about time being wasted. Or that stylists would rip off customers by moving slowly. Arguments for women being charged more than men for the same haircut- (long or short) included *Womens hair is thicker *Men can use clippers but women need scissors *Men get their hair cut more frequently and therefor can pay less- women need to be up charged because they are less frequent customers. *Women are pickier and take more time *Men rarely have long hair so there is no need *Women have more complicated hair patterns *Men don’t need short hair blow dried. And more. I don’t agree with most of the responses. Especially as a person who has an F on their birth certificate but gets a clipper cut “mens cut” with no problems or issues. I’ve also seen a lot of great places charge by time, skill set, tools, materials etc. shoutout to @openbarbers for example. However I’m always open to learning more and understanding prior to judging. Hence this study. This video showcases just 5 out of the 98 total binary pricing hair salons interviewed and we asked. The average differences were over 30% cheaper for mens cuts, womens prices often can be negotiable if there is a good argument, 78% responded that they were completely unwilling to change their store model. The most common reason given was “Womens hair is thicker” and “blow drying takes longer for Womens hair”. What do You think? Should things stay the same? Are these good reasons to have clear divides? How would You charge people? If You are an expert this is a safe space to vocalize. This video is just one of several upcoming social experiments/studies being repressed where we look into the idea of “Gender Capitalism” and if it exists. For those new here, my name is Rain Dove. My identity is that “I am I”. I don’t identify as male or female. Rather as all and nothing. You can call me what You see/feel/experience. It’s all valid. #socialexperiment #genderequality #nonbinaryfashion #hairgoals #genderqueer
