"Anthony had two requirements in making the film: scenes set in Korea needed to be shot in Korea, and it had to be shot on 16mm. ⠀ We embraced evolving master shots - long continuous takes that were precisely choreographed with a beginning middle and end. Almost every scene in the movie unfolds in a single take. The length of time we got out of each 400’ mag on s16 was essential ⠀ The lighting needed to support a constantly wandering camera, with wildly varying levels of exposure. I overexposed, at times by as much as 2 stops to preserve the shadows, and could trust that everything would be there on the negative. ⠀ A special shout out to my incredible camera team: 1st AC Mikael Biddard was an absolute artist in his own right, who would work miracles even through long, improvised takes at challenging stops on the gimbal. Our 2nd AC John Flemming and loader Eily Sprungman who were heroes day in and out.
