God has been teaching me so much about walking in pure obedience. He has been teaching me to listen to His whisper in my ear that tells me to, “drop,” “go,” and “stay.” He has been teaching me that when He gives me a word, I am to speak it to whoever He tells me to. I have learned that no matter what God tells me to do and who He tells me to deliver His message to, I am to do it because He is God! This semester, God stretched me by asking me to give up things that I would have never imagined having to give up. He asked me to leave places I never wanted to leave. And He asked me to stay in places that I was begging Him to leave. For me, surrendering my own plans and walking in obedience to God’s calls left me feeling lonelier than ever. However, in this season, God taught me that no matter how lonely I may feel, I am never truly alone because He is right there beside me. He goes with me where He calls me to go and He stays with me where He calls me to stay. The same is true for you. No matter where God calls you to go and what He calls you to do or give up, He is beside you! Sometimes obedience leaves you feeling lonely. Sometimes obedience hurts. Sometimes obedience doesn’t make sense. I have cried out to God many times because I have felt all of these things this semester. I know it’s hard to leave the comfortable when God asks you to step into the uncomfortable and face the unknown. But obedience in the unknown is a special thing. It is a beautiful act of surrender that says, “God, I don’t know what You are doing, but I know that You are doing something. Have all of me. Where You go, I will follow.” If being obedient to the call of God is sometimes hard, why should we say yes? We should say yes because it’s worth it. Dropping our plans to follow Him is the best decision. No matter what God asks you to do or give up, He asks you to for a reason. It might be lonely, it might be scary, it might be different than what you planned, but God knows what He has planned and His plan is far greater. You never know what God has on the other side of His call until you say yes and go! “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” Galatians 5:25
