An intense week of work in New York has come to an end. Russia’s war of aggression is a direct threat to the international order. So more than ever, as I told @antonioguterres, we need strong European Union - @unitednations partnership, promoting what we believe in: peace, multilateralism and a rules-based world order. The shockwaves of Russia’s war are also endangering the livelihoods of millions across the globe. So we all need to pick up the pace to meet our global goals. ✊ Fighting hunger and poverty: This week I confirmed €600 million for global food security in Africa, the Caribbeans and the pacific as well as €715 million to the @globalfund, to wipe out infectious diseases everywhere. ⚖️ Championing human rights and democracy In Europe, we have learnt that democracy was always work in progress. In my exchange with @princeton students, I told them that their noble mission was to keep unveiling the truth, which is often manipulated by the opponents of democracy to serve their ends. Women’s rights are human rights. I announced €45 million to @unfpa, for the reproductive rights of girls and women. 🌳 Supporting partners in the clean and digital transition I met the heads of state and governments of Chile, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and Colombia to discuss the opportunities that our investment strategy #GlobalGateway could create in their countries... and in turn, in Europe! I also confirmed that the EU will provide €7 billion for global biodiversity protection - that is double the funding so far. We all need to step up. Citizens expect us to take the green ambition forward.
