Confession time: I have always had a fear of the ocean. I grew up in a landlocked city and my experiences with large bodies of water were always limited. I have always been overwhelmed and in awe by the vastness and the beauty; by the unpredictability and even the moments of calm. I grew up being embarrassed that I wasn’t the strongest swimmer and avoided getting in the water at all costs. However, through yoga (and also marrying a man who practically lives in the water), I’ve been practicing my relationship to the fear I’ve had all my life. Yesterday, I practiced surrender in the ocean. I went out even farther than what was captured here. During the waves of panic, I came back to my practice, I breathed, I trusted myself, and more than anything I remembered I wasn’t alone. What fears have you been able to face lately?
