Fair warning, what follows is annoying and sentimental. I consider myself extremely fortunate to be surrounded by art in my day job, my hobbies, almost everything I do. Even so, I struggle to describe myself as an artist or my performing habits as "art." "Art" has always felt too big, too official, too significant to describe my work. With Sweeney Todd, I got to play a true villain in a show full of flawed characters, understudy and perform one of the most iconic roles in musical theatre canon, and spend 60 performances watching the most talented group of artists I have ever known do the things they do best. I still struggle to define myself as an artist, but with this show, I know that I have been a witness to the creation of "art." Thanks to this cast, crew, band, creative team, and everyone who visited us on Fleet Street.
