At 35, I am just being diagnosed and coming to fully understand being autistic and how much it has shaped my existence. As a high-masking 2e female, I have completely slipped through the cracks. It’s a shock until it’s pointed out. And then it’s painfully obvious. Autistic individuals who are assigned female at birth, especially those of whom that may have other neurodivergent lenses, are nearly undetectable to the previous and current majority of diagnostic assessments. There is an invisible fraction that is stuck feeling like they can’t figure out why internally nothing feels right.
