We tend to make our minds about something and keep that opinion for a long time - it's simpler, easier to live this way. But aren't we missing out on the diverse beauty of this world when we stick to what's easy and simple? Take the red color, so tightly connected with Xmas celebrations. We like it as a symbol of love, passion, and warmth. Our blood - the sign of life, is red as well. Yet there is "good" blood and "bad" blood. The bad one being the menstrual blood - for centuries people who menstruate were shamed for their monthly bleeding, made to leave the communities and stay secluded. It's still a taboo in so many places. Hands up if you menstruate and ever chose to say "I have a headache" instead of admitting you have menstrual cramps. If you ever tried hiding your pad or tampon while on the way to a public bathroom. I did that many times, but at some point I stopped. I realized that nothing's gonna change if people who menstruate won't change the way they talk about it: open and honest. Period blood is not dirty (if it was we would die from toxic shock syndrome). It's natural, it's beautiful. I hope that this Holiday Season when you think of red, you'll think of menstrual blood: the force of life.
