In his TriBeCa loft the Paris-born design dealer Hugues Magen, founder of NYC’s venerable @magenhgallery, surrounds himself with an incredible array of awe-inspiring objects, art, and furniture acquired over a lifetime of connoisseurship and sleuthing. “I’ve always tried to buy the best pieces I can find,” says Magen. “It’s really like detective work, trying to find out where these pieces could be.” He and his wife April Magen moved into this apartment eight years ago and with the help of Paris-based designer Gabriella Asfar transformed the funky artist’s studio into a vitrine for his personal collection, which includes Perriand, Prouvé, Jeanneret, African and Oceanic antiquities, and contemporary art by Mike Kelley, Robert Longo, Jenny Holzer, Ugo Rondinone, and more. Magen says of the final result, “It’s a sort of communion. In order to communicate with each other, they have to have a certain degree of what I call a vibrational aesthetic.” Full story in December AD and via link in bio, 📷 @sans.murs styling @kellemiles text @_h_mart_
