& @diokaminaris present the IGER OF THE DAY of January 11, 2023 🧿 DISCOVERING THE GREEK ISLANDS: TINOS ISLAND (Cyclades) 🧿 Tinos is the third largest island of Cyclades islands complex (area 197 sq.km.) after Naxos and Andros. It has almost 8k inhabitants divided into 62 settlements. Tinos belongs to the northern Cyclades and is located southeast of Andros and northwest of Mykonos. According to the legend, the famous sculptor of the ancient times, Phidias, had taught the secrets of his art to the locals. Their admirable craft is displayed in chapels, fountains, arches and pigeon lofts. Tinos is home for the church of Panagia Evangelistria, with the homonymous miraculous icon, according to Christian tradition, the most important religion site in Greece! The church celebrates on the 25th of March (Annunciation of the Virgin), however it is the most popular destination on the 15th of August (Adoration of the Virgin). On January 30 (Three Hierarchs) the anniversary of the finding of the Holy Icon of Megalocharis is celebrated.
