As part of @filmsonthegreen Festival 2022, AFF is excited to be co-presenting a screening Ousmane Sembène’s brilliantly satirical ‘Mandabi’ (1968), next Friday, July 22 at Harlem’s Riverside Park. In ‘Mandabi (The Money Order),’ an unemployed Ibrahima faces numerous difficulties with the Senegalese bureaucracy when trying to cash a money order. This film explores themes of neocolonialism, religion, corruption, and relationships in Senegalese society. Based on the novel ‘Le Mandat’ by the director himself (1965).
