ETTA JAMES I had the special opportunity to be friends with this unbelievable extraordinary talent who is a critical part of American music history especially the Blues Jazz genre. I was working with a musical director for one of my shows (1993) when he pointed out that all the music I chose from the 60’s to the nineties were Etta James! I had no idea who she was and I did a little research found her manager and invited her to the show. She was performing in California her home state at the time and in response she invited me to her performance at Irving Plaza. It was an instant connection that went deeply into talks about our mothers and so much more soul touching intimacy. To see and hear Etta in person was life changing. Every year she performed a few times in New York to BB King or the Madison Square Garden Theater. She would invite me to the shows and invite me backstage where our conversations picked up and continued. Lines of celebrities would file in backstage to see Etta with the respect she deserved. I have so many wonderful memories and her music continues to move me deeply.
