For my solo exhibition to open on September 8 at the Busan Museum @busanmuseumofart of Art in Korea, I am making around 30 new works, while also renovating some of my past work. Unlike when I was young, I can’t quite muster the bring-it-on spirit, but to make up for that I’m trying to get through this with my past experience and tenacity of the old hand. Having been cooped up at home during the pandemic, everyone’s desire to get out, celebrate life, and enjoy the entertainment is stronger than ever in 2022, so I need to do better than ever. In May, I had a solo show of new works at Gagosian Madison @gagosian Avenue in NY and another exhibition at The Broad @thebroadmuseum in LA, managing to present works in North America to favorable receptions. So this time, I’m showcasing my work in Korea, Asia. They have prepared a big stage for my work, so I’m trying to do my absolute best, but I wonder how much I can actually accomplish!? I need tremendous support from the production team and the venue alike. We are on the last stretch! I hope to overcome the final challenges with teamwork but it’s a tremendously complicated project. I’m confident that the audience who visit the show will enjoy it, but on the production side we have to keep up the work for the next month like our pants are on fire. This Zombie sculpture has been in the works for the past 5 years and I’m finally going to complete it for this occasion.
