I had the opportunity to speak to @vanessahaye for @r29unbothered in light of @keke’s recent pregnancy announcement after she spoke openly about her experience with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). Firstly, PCOS is common, in fact it is the most common hormone abnormality of reproductive-aged women and affects approximately 1 in 10 women in the UK.
The effects on fertility is often a big concern for those who have PCOS. High levels of androgens (hormones such as testosterone) and insulin levels can affect the menstrual cycle and ovulation. This can make it more difficult for women with PCOS to conceive. However, it’s important to say that this does not mean that all women with PCOS will have difficulties. Overall, studies have found women with PCOS have the same number of children as women without PCOS, this may be naturally, it may take more time or it may be with the help of fertility treatment and other management options.
Thank you @r29unbothered and @vanessahaye for this brilliant article and shedding light on PCOS . Full article in bio.
