Some captures from the protests throughout the last week here in LA. What I've witnessed at these protests is unlike anything I've ever seen in my lifetime; so many have come together to demand justice for those black lives that have been stolen and the dismantling of the oppressive systems in place to deny black people their fundamental rights as human. But this last week, isn't enough, the fight is not over. There is no going back to how things were, and no such thing as being a "model citizen" in a society that does not value its' black citizens. That society is broken, and it is not one I want to live in; a society that needlessly, excessively uses violence against black people; a society that continually disenfranchises black people; a society that is entrenched in dated systems that perpetuate these acts of blatant violence and microagressions. There will still be more violence, still be people incarcerated unjustly, still be people given unequal opportunities. Please continue posting, continue writing, continue signing petitions, continue learning, donating, rallying, protesting, do not stop. I am hopeful when I say that this generation can create transformational change that will safeguard black lives and rights for future generations. Throughout history, all the major changes in society have been started by people at the grassroots level, people like you and I. So I ask you to please make these changes, and continue fighting. We must change the course of history for the better. I will be the first to say, that I do not know exactly what these changes look like; I do not hold all, if any of the answers. What I do know, is that we cannot continue on like this. And so I will continue to fight, to write, to donate, to protest, to document, to educate myself, so that I will be a better ally to black people. The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good people to do nothing. Black lives matter is not a moment, but a movement.
