Here’s the last official reel of
Breast Cancer Action Month.
I’m done with the misconceptions.
But I also give grace because I was once undiagnosed
and unaware.
I was once the person running with a pink tutu on
in a sea of pink tents,
and pink bras,
and “save the tatas” signs,
and so many promises,
but very little going back to the
BREAST CANCER COMMUNITY.
I was once someone that thought
that the huge and well publicized companies
with the celebrities behind them were the ones
doing the most change.
Little did I know many of those same companies
pocketed that money and very few of those funds go directly back to US, the thriver, survivors, previvors, veterans.
I didn’t know the long term physical effects
of breast cancer.
I didn’t know the long term MENTAL toll it takes.
I didn’t know that once my hair grew back,
and the burns healed,
and the surgery scar was closed up,
and “active treatment” was “done”,
so much of the support would vanish,
but that’s when I would need it the most.
I didn’t know I would have to check and recheck every bump, limp, cough, bone pain, headache, etc.
I didn’t know I’d battle with PTSD.
And I didn’t know I’d have a
GIANT community
of THE BEST HUMANS,
to walk,
cry,
laugh,
scream,
curse,
fight,
dance,
alongside me and my family.
Because of the overwhelming amount of pink ribbons you see in October,
YOU may think you know about Breast Cancer too,
but until you’ve had to STARE IT IN THE FACE,
or felt the deep fear of potentially staring it in the face,
you just don’t know.
And honestly, it’s ok that you don’t,
just listen though,
to our real stories,
and support the small organizations that are 100% helping us and giving back!
Here’s a few you can keep giving to AFTER OCTOBER ENDS:
@the_breasties
@metavivor
@forthebreastofus
@touchbbca
@pinkribbongirls
@fightingpretty
These are just a few!
Please remember us after this month.
We need you ALL.
Love you, mean it❤️
