I had a pretty a nerve racking bear encounter this week after a big sow and 2 yearling cubs came in to the sound of my predator call. As you can see in the video the sow got uncomfortably close and I had to yell at her to make sure she new I was there, after not running for a solid 5 seconds I shouldered my 45-70 just in case. She ended up retreating but her cubs didn’t follow and instead climbed a tree 10 yards to the left of me. Momma bear stopped and stood her ground at 30 yards which gave me enough time and space to retreat and let them reunite and make their way back down the ridge! It was such an exciting but nerve racking. Hopefully those cubs grow up to be big and fat and that sow continues on having healthy cubs!
