Muskox
Captured by @soosseli
“Muskox is a majestic, ancient looking animal that is well adapted to living in the harsh conditions of the Arctic region.
During summer muskoxen live in lower areas but in winter they climb on top of mountains where's less snow and finding food is therefore easier. These animals don't need to be afraid of many predators, but arctic wolves, brown and polar bears and human can kill them. If thereatened, the herd will form a circle living the youngest and weakest ones inside. They can be very aggressive towards human and should not be approached too close.
The amount of muskoxen decreased significanly in the history because of hunting and changing climate but has been later recovering in some places. Muskox is endemic to Canada and Greenland but has been introduced to Alaska, Norway and Siberia where they used to live thousands of years ago.
As the climate keeps changing, muskoxen along many other Arctic species are threatened. It's not easy to adapt to a such a quick change after thousand of years of slow evolution. The Arctic is shrinking and animals are put under pressure to find new places to live. They can move norther and norther but at some point there will be no place left to go. Many Arctic species will go extinct in near future. How many - that's up to us.” @soosseli
