I’ve been writing since I was a little girl. The written word became a form of connection, discovery, hope and creativity as I made my way through my tween years and into my twenties. When I barreled head first into academic writing in graduate school, I felt like a kid in a candy store. I couldn’t get enough of books, research, psychology, philosophy, public health and then some. As my PhD program came to a close—culminating in a dissertation project—I became obsessed with the process. It was all I wanted to work on — the interviews, data collection, word smithing, weaving together the various stories and mapping prominent themes. It felt like art to me. And so as I made my way from academia into launching my private practice with a specialty in reproductive health, I began freelance writing. My 16-week miscarriage—which happened in the context of my home while there alone—invariably catapulted my writerly focus squarely on pregnancy loss and life after, ultimately culminating in my first book: I HAD A MISCARRIAGE: A Memoir, a Movement. As many of you know, I’ve got another book in the works — related themes, but different. I cannot wait to tell you more about it as it continues to take shape. Here’s a flurry of some of the pieces I’ve written over the years—from pregnancy loss to postpartum issues, all things reproductive health, sex, maternal mental health, body image, birth, motherhood, pandemic life and then some. More coming soon. Stay tuned.
