As part of our #NY1at30 coverage, we look back at March 1, 2020, when a Manhattan resident became the first person to have a confirmed case of COVID-19 in New York. The pandemic soon surged, prompting restaurants, schools and arenas to close in the city. First responders sprung to action as hospitals were pushed to the limit. Nurses and doctors, with limited personal protection equipment, risked their lives to help their fellow New Yorkers. Two-and-a-half years later, the effects of the coronavirus pandemic continue to be felt in the five boroughs and beyond. Editor: @himynameisdan
