Here’s a truth that’ll save you years of confusion in the fitness space: All systems work. Just as much as all systems can fail. PRI, FRC, ATG, Westside, FP, CrossFit… all of them work — for someone, in some situation. (Except GOATA…then probably not) And just as much as all of them work, all of them fail — if you ignore the context and the person in front of you. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with these systems. The problem comes with the messages they’re sending out and their marketing techniques of “one size fits all.” Or, “if only Haliburton would’ve done this my way.” Tools aren’t bad. Methods aren’t dangerous. Dogma is. The moment you need a system to be “right,” you stop coaching and start defending. Remember: • You’re not coaching a method. You’re coaching a person. • You’re not paid to believe. You’re paid to solve. • Your job isn’t to stick to a lane — it’s to build a road map. Good systems are starting points. Better coaching comes from knowing when to abandon them. If you lead with systems over context, you miss the true meaning of what we do in this industry. Stay present. Stay adaptable. Be a real coach.
