3 things that wouldn’t exist without female entrepreneurship: The paper coffee filter that is broadly used by many of us in the morning was invented by a German housewife, Melitta Bentz. As a female figure who brewed coffee every day, Melitta was not satisfied with the overly bitter coffee made by metal devices, and therefore tried a softer sheet of paper from her son’s notebook. In 1908, Melitta successfully launched Melitta Bentz Company with the patent of the paper coffee filter, which for many years has helped people experience a quick and efficient morning coffee routine. The recipe for the chocolate chip cookie was created by Ruth Graves Wakefield. She started her own business, Toll House Inn, with her husband, and operated the tourist lodge in town. Ruth had written a popular cookbook, Toll House Tried and True Recipes. In 1938, the chocolate chip cookie was invented while Ruth was making her famous butterscotch cookies, and Ruth updated her cookbook to include the recipe. Hedy Lamarr was an Austrian-American film actress who innovated the precursor of today’s WiFi, a spread-spectrum radio, for the US Navy to help the allies in WWII. Today, the technology pioneered by Hedy is also largely used in GPS, Bluetooth, and many other communication systems. #shepreneur #shepreneurproject #shestherealthing #inspireinnovateignite
