Succumbing to breadcrumbing is a painful and drawn-out dynamic where one person, often with unconscious anxious attachment behaviours, clings to someone emotionally withdrawn from the connection who reaps the rewards of the relationship without investing enough for it to survive.⁣ ⁣ Both people participating in this destructive dance miss the opportunity to share a deep love and authentic connection. Or worse, become so entrenched and invested in pursuing more love from the other that the trauma bond feels impossible to free yourself from.⁣ ⁣ When basic relationship needs aren’t met, you put in more effort to sustain them and often feel the painful gnawing of “I deserve better.” The challenge is whether you can bravely honour your boundaries or alter your expectations to suit this person specifically – which can be massive self-betrayal.⁣ ⁣ Once it’s been communicated to your partner that you need more from them, if they continue breadcrumbing, their response is a resounding “no,” or they don’t possess the tools to navigate emotional awareness.⁣ ⁣ Could you be the one breadcrumbing?⁣ ⁣ If it’s unconscious, it may signify the need to address internalized relationship blockages, recognize others’ boundaries, and seek companionship where the level of commitment is mutual.
