In the midst of the global pandemic and thanks to the support of National Geographic Society @insidenatgeo , I had the privilege to accompany a Kurdish nomads family in their incredible #transhumance. I am now very glad to see that their story is published in 36 pages reportage in @revueepic (Link in profile)
During Spring of 2021, I joined Maşallah (a shepherd) and his family in the
Bagok Mountains (in Turkey) where they spend the winter and where their transhumance begins. Every year, following the tradition perpetuated by their ancestors, they start with their flocks an epic transhumance from the arid lands of the southeast of the country to the green plateaus of Van, which is more than 400 kilometers away. So I accompanied this nomadic shepherd family and their 9 000 animals in their long, arduous and beautiful journey through the mountains. The landscapes were breathtaking but the work was exhausting and the region was full of pitfalls (like the presence of wolves and numerous military operations). Their courage never ceased to impress me.
A big thank you to Masallah and his family who welcomed me very warmly. Their only wish : "A healthy life for our children, in a peaceful country ".
