📍 Alicante (old town), Spain 🇪🇸 Barrio Santa Cruz, often called El Barrio, is a hilltop old town overlooking the Balearic sea coastline of Alicante. Discovering hidden gems when travelling is incredible, isn’t it? 🤩🤩 @freyadudding and I hiked through the hills of Alicante to find this secluded old town, and it was worth every bit of sweat 😅 I would say it’s quite inaccessible with a lot of steep dips, cobbles, steps, and steep hills unfortunately. And you probably have to be of a reasonable fitness to get up there (especially if you’re going to keep hiking further up to the castle ruins!!) Once we got up there, it was SO quiet and different from the hustle and bustle of Alicante centre. Everyone around us (bar one photographer) was a local living in old town, and they like to keep to themselves mostly, and most don’t mind the photography of their homes (although please do ask before just snapping pics). It was really friendly and I felt safe walking around. We went in the daytime, but according to TripAdvisor, Instagram, and a few other travel blogs, it has a fantastic night life full of rustic Spanish culture 💃🏾 .
