Today marks one year since Afghanistan’s capital Kabul fell to the Taliban—a year in which women have lost many of the freedoms they had for the previous two decades.
“We were right to be outraged by the mistreatment of women in Afghanistan in the 1990s, and we should still be outraged today,” writes @angelinajolie, Academy Award–winning actor and humanitarian.
“Yet despite the dangers, the greatest resistance to the reversal of women’s rights in Afghanistan has not come from foreign powers, but from Afghan women themselves, who have taken to the streets.”
