I stood right here with my Grandfather on a trip we took for his 80th bday. It was just me and him. In the moment, I was a bit stressed making sure I had all our travel arranged, everything was to his liking, and there were no hiccups along the way. He traveled the world more than any member of my family and was a big inspiration for me growing up. In retrospect, I never needed to stress, he had the time of his life and so did I. Shortly after this trip, he started a battle with Alzheimer’s that he’d eventually lose the battle with. I’ve told this story before, but I like the write it out every now and then. Re-living the memories, sharing the lessons I learned, and putting them down with a picture help me heal. I think what I took away most from this trip is being present in a moment. If you’re on vacation, with family, or around those you care about, soak in the moment. You never know how many of those you have left in life.
