At the beginning of the day, most morning glory flowers unfurl and bloom into full form.
O'Keeffe's curiosity in the pictorial possibilities of the flower were accompanied by experimentation in her work. This allowed O'Keeffe to focus on the flower's physical attributes, which she explored in a serial format, capturing blossoms at various angles and backdrops.
Here she's accented a large animal bone with the morning glory and the blossom shines equally bright.
What is the most unique flower you've ever seen? Let us know in the comments! 💙
P.S. Our friends over at Queens County Farm have used this painting as their inspiration for their Amazing Maize Maze this fall! Check out @queensfarm 🌽
