This work by Georgia O’Keeffe is one of the artist’s earliest watercolors, created between 1903 and 1905. At the time, O’Keeffe would have been in her mid to late teens and just beginning her formal arts education. This still life, depicting red flowers on thorny, leaf covered branches in glass vase, is quite traditional and typical of the time, yet shows the artist’s early experiments with color and shape. Even as a teenager and in the earliest stages of her career, which consisted of traditional training in watercolors and pastels, one can see O’Keeffe’s fascination with flowers. #OKeeffeMuseum #OKeeffeInspired Georgia O'Keeffe.
