What’s wrong with kids these days? Part III: Low/moderate intensity running
It is not uncommon for athletes to sprint pretty well at certain intensities and pretty poorly at others.
Lately, I have been using a lot of Sprint-Float-Sprint reps in training - ultimately just providing various intensities for different segments of a run. Each segment is typically about 15-20 yards for a total rep duration of 45-60 yards. I challenge the athletes to make both small and large changes in intensities and observe to see what their movement solution is as they make their adjustments. With this, I am looking for relatively small biomechanical adjustments leading to seamless transitions in intensity.
