So, check this out...... 2005 was the last year that the North Sea Jazz Festival was held in Den Haag before moving to its current location in Rotterdam. As a special goodbye to Den Haag, Joe Zawinul led an all-star jam (he never did stuff like that!) with me, John Scofield, Toots Thielemans, Ravi Coltrane, Bill Stewart, Toon Roos and none other than Barry Harris! To see Joe fawn over his old friend Barry Harris was worth everything. Playing with Zawinul meant the world to me, as I admired this great man and musician deeply. I had the chance to hang with him many times talking life, music, art and boxing. The video of this all-star jam is now available! (By the way, the 2002 North Sea Jazz Festival is also the only time I got to play with the Wayne Shorter quartet, but that’s another video. 😉) For now, enjoy this Zawinul jam from 2005.
