It’s my last work day of the year & I’m reflecting on some of my accomplishments. I always have a hard time being proud of the stuff I’ve done, but screw it, because 2022 was by far my biggest year of growth—both personally + professionally. Some of my biggest personal milestones this year include winning a national TV competition (championing “Five Little Indians” by @creeborn on @cbc’s #CanadaReads!) and receiving a national book award for my own book, #ThePowerofStyle. Still can’t believe either of those happened. I’m also hugely proud of the Indigenous stories I’ve told this year at @voguemagazine. I feel so lucky to have the freedom and support to explore any crazy idea or concept that pops into my head; I’ve learned about so many beautiful people and stories and traditions this year as a result. Indigenous voices have been ignored for so long, and while I’m only a very small part in bringing them forward, it brings me immense joy that know that maybe even just ONE person will read these stories & learn something. I’m always learning, too—that’s the best part of being a writer—and I can’t wait to learn even more in 2023. But that’s all for now, folks ❤️ ...
