I discovered Tofuku-ji on my first visit to Kyoto and it’s been a favorite temple of mine ever since. By coincidence we booked a traditional tea ceremony at a sub temple I had never visited called Komyo-in which happily took me back. Tofuku-ji is also a Zen temple. It was founded in 1236, burned down and rebuilt in the 15th century only to burn again in 1881. Some parts including it’s main gate(Sammon) is original and is the oldest and largest of its kind in Japan. #tofukuji #komyoin #zen #kyoto #japan
