We all have photos we take but never get around to posting. My client wanted a warmer, more neutral but still bright blonde for this appointment. She is a new mommy, so it’s very important to keep it lived-in so she can 6+ months between appointments. KEY THINGS I keep in mind when doing lived-in blondes: CONSULTATION Understand the client’s lifestyle, maintenance preferences, and natural hair color. Discuss desired tones (warm, neutral, cool) and the level of lightness. PLACEMENT Use a strategic placement for highlights to ensure a natural grow-out. Focus on the hairline, parting, and the crown ROOT MELT Apply a root melt or smudge to soften the transition between the natural root and the lightened ends. This helps in creating a low-maintenance look that grows out beautifully. DEPTH: Remember not to over foil, use the clients base as a natural lowlight. FACE FRAME: Brightness naturally lives around the face, so it’s important to keep this in mind when foiling and toning. The back hairline is also part of the face frame, and if you want a cohesive blonde throughout, you need to foil the back as well.
