Protein is particularly important during pregnancy. The body is growing an entire human plus an organ and it needs the support of protein to do it. In the second and third trimesters, protein needs increase by an additional 25 grams per day. However, research is showing that prenatal protein needs may be even higher. Instead of fixating on how many grams of protein to consume per day, instead try focusing on having a source of protein at every meal or snack, especially later in pregnancy. Protein can be found in animal foods like beef, poultry, fish, eggs, greek yogurt, and cheese as well as plant foods like beans, lentils, nuts, seeds, edamame, tofu, and tempeh. See above some examples of high-protein snacks. #highproteinsnacks #pregnancynutritionist #pregnancynutritiontips #pregnancysnacks #pregnancysnack
