Clearing is just the beginning 💜 Four years ago, Matthew found himself in the Clearing 'whirlwind'. He's now about to complete his Master's in Health Psychology. "Clearing was such a whirlwind experience, and as one can imagine quite stressful. Portsmouth’s service was so helpful for calming those nerves, by being prompt and direct. I actually ended up phoning in directly to the head of Psychology who was fantastic, and said he had looked over my application and saw no reason why I couldn’t have a place. It was probably the most stressful time of my life, phoning up university after university. I had previously applied to Portsmouth for one of my five offers, however, I didn’t choose it for my firm or insurance, so it was a natural step to call them. I had liked the city and speaking to students so it was a no brainer. The staff were fantastic, your nerves are totally shot, you’ve just received your results and it feels like you have to comprehend so much all at once. So having calm, reassuring people to talk to really helped the process, and make it much more bearable. Portsmouth gave me the opportunity to excel and thrive, even if my A-Levels didn’t necessarily represent that the best they could. I’ve had an amazing time at Portsmouth, really fulfilling a potential I knew I had, but made real by the incredible staff and opportunities. Never had I dreamt of doing a Master’s, yet here I am on the verge of completing it. Clearing gave me that opportunity, and I’ve never looked back.
