In their native habitat of northern and central Asia’s high mountains, these elusive cats are sometimes called “ghosts of the mountains,” and sightings of them are extremely rare. Snow leopards are very shy, plus the coloring of their coats makes them difficult to pick out against the backdrop of the snowy, rocky environment they live in.
