#filmtipfriday HOW TO TEST YOUR LIGHT METER: Did you know most handheld light meters aren't calibrated correctly, even fresh out-of-the-box? Yep, it's common for them to be off slightly. What to do? Test them! Then you can know by how many stops (or fractions of a stop) it's off and compensate accordingly at your next shoot. (Remember: consistent exposures are key to getting consistent scans that draw as close to your vision as possible!) Here's how to test your handheld light meter to see if it is off: 💡 Set your ISO to 200. 💡 On a clear day in the mid- to late-afternoon, take a meter reading bulb out in open shade. 💡 Your meter should read f/4 at 125. 💡 If it doesn't, calculate the difference and compensate accordingly at future shoots! What questions do you have about light meters? 🐶 @meredithjanephoto / Fuji400H rated at 200 ISO / Contax645 / Noritsu S-1800 / Boston, Massachusetts "In order to finish out my film roll to send to PhotoVision, it's always easy to take pictures of our beautiful Siberian Husky puppy, Stowe. She was being so calm (for once) that I'd thought it'd be cute for her to be my little helper and hold my meter for her close up. She could be a model. She is the perfect photographer's dog! "I love the catch light and color in her left eye. Most people think her eyes are so dark that they are black, but you can see the rich brown in this photo." — Meredith Kerr #photovisionprints #filmtips #filmeducation #learnhowtoshootfilm #lightmeter #sibierianhusky #husky #puppylove #howtometer #filmlab #filmscanning #filmdeveloping #mediumformat #contax #120film #fujifilm #fuji400h #dogsonfilm #doggo #boston #photographyeducation #photographytips #learnhowtousealightmeter #filmcommunity #filmphotographer @stowethehusky @fujifilm_profilm
