I want to ask you a question: If you are nervous about going on-camera or speaking up in general, what are you actually afraid of? And WHY? It's nearly universal to care about how you look and to worry about not sounding like an idiot or an a**hole but where did you learn this? How did this get so baked in to your head that it's stopping you from fully showing up or pursuing your dream? Your details are unique to you and depend a lot on how and where you were raised + socio-economics, gender, race, ethnicity, culture, even birth order... As a girl growing up in the 1960s and 70s I was told constantly to be quiet, not to speak up, to pipe down...Demure was the ideal and I wasn't it. During the last 18 months I thought about the cultural messages I received daily and how they've shifted but still play out, especially in media (watch any political campaign) and then about the many specific moments in my life where I was shut down, like when my 5th grade teacher, exasperated with my exhuberance said very pointedly in front of the entire class: Barbara, nobody cares what you have to say. Teachers, I feel you when enthusiasm bleeds into impulse issues - but that was hurtful from an authority figure I admired and those 8 words impacted me for years. If you're open to it, I'd love to hear about your own experiences because the good news is your story isn't finished and you can rewrite the narrative and retool your character to be whatever you want. Feel free to leave a comment or DM me xx
