Artist Donna Huanca invites you to abandon the realms of the everyday and join her in entering the PORTAL DE PLATA. This final artist selection from the Christen Sveaas Foundation explodes in an immersive, multi-sensory environment, in which @ruaminx addresses the entangled relationship between colonialism, displacement, and self-creation in art making. Through antique silver objects, mystifying artworks, and a large mirrored surface that folds the wandering visitor into dialogue with the space, the Gallery’s architecture has been lifted into a meditative space of intimacy and reflection. The visitor shares the space with a recording of the artist’s father teaching her mother his native language from the silver mining regions of Bolivia, and an earthy and smoky smell, drawn from Huanca’s experience of her Bolivian heritage.
