Thank you all so, so much 💛. It has been the honor and the privilege of my life to organize alongside you as your Assemblymember over these past two years. To see more than 22,000 of you vote to extend that by another term fills my heart with gratitude and determination. As I’ve tried to process this all over the past few days, I’ve often come back to one of my favorite phrases: “A luta continua.” It’s Portuguese for “the struggle continues,” the rallying cry of the Mozambican war for independence. I think of these words because when I announced my campaign three years ago, I promised that my office would be a platform for all of us to demand the New York we need. That together, we would make Albany answer to Astoria and show that another world is possible. Since then, you’ve shown just what that world looks like. Together we’ve won more than $250 million in historic debt relief for taxi workers. We’ve built a thriving climate movement in Astoria that goes toe-to-toe with the nation’s biggest polluters and wins. And we’ve elected a growing slate of socialists in office who will be joining our ranks in Albany on January 1st. These are huge wins that have and will continue to transform the lives of our neighbors. And yet. And yet there is still so much more to fight for. Our rents are still skyrocketing, our climate continues to be in crisis, our MTA once again stands on the brink of a fiscal cliff, and all the while our state leads the nation in income inequality.
